Third volume in the Drawings and Graphics series edited by Jacqueline Morreau. The series, an outgrowth of Scarecrow Press' 1982 volume of Joseph Mugnaini's drawings and graphics, features collections by contemporary artists whose work is representational in the widest sense, whose style is diverse, and whose drawings and graphics, and occasionally paintings, lend themselves to reproduction in black and white.
Sue Coe's work may be labeled Social Realism in its reflection of current social and political issues; her vision is expressed so clearly and forcefully as to seem radical. Many of these paintings have been published in newspapers and magaines worldwide, including the New York Times and the Sunday Times of London, and exhibited in one-woman and group shows. They provide a visual record of the landscape of the times, and have been compared by critics to the works of Goya, Daumier, Hogart, and Kollwitz.
