Rising Sun: Artists in an Uncertain America, is a collaboration between the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP).
Coe's work in the exhibition, the drawing Anita Hill Thank You America (Anita Hill, study for the lithograph of the same title), 1991, will be on view at PAFA in a gallery dedicated to providing contextual material and underscoring important themes about the state of American democracy, both past and present.
In the other galleries at PAFA’s Historic Landmark Building and at AAMP are new installations by twenty contemporary artists who were invited to respond to the critical question: Is the sun rising or setting on the experiment of American democracy? With eleven artists at PAFA and nine artists at AAMP, this exhibition is a unique and multi-dimensional consideration of the socio-political climate today.
