This piece is from a series of works Coe created on the Trump administration. The first work in the series, It Can Happen Here, was printed in October 2016 before the election. Coe assumed the Trump theme would be a one-off, since she did not think he would actually win the election. Then the unthinkable happened. After Trump took office, Coe created a number of linocuts reacting to Trump's policies, his enablers, and the news cycle detailing the new administration (she continued to create pieces critical of Trump's reign through 2020). Total Eclipse was created in early 2017, and consists of, as Sue put it, "a big Trump head blocking the sun, the world going mad underneath." Although this particular piece is numbered from an edition of 300, the edition size has been revised down to 100 impressions.
