This print tells the story of one of the Buddha's many reincarnations, when he saw a starving tigress who was about to eat her young: he threw himself down into her den as food, and in that moment was reincarnated. From the Jataka tales, which pre-date Aesop.  The black and white impressions are from an edition of 40 and the hand colored impressions are from an edition of 25
